Frequently Asked Questions

I haven't played before, can I join?

Yes! We have a wide variety of players on DYU. From people recruited in PE classes, to people who have been playing for years. Even if you struggle with catching, throwing, or anything to do with Ultimate, you are still eligible to come with us to most tournaments. As long as you are willing to come out and try, you will be a perfect fit for our team. Our coaches and captains, as well as other experienced players, are more that happy to help one-on-one.

What is Ultimate Frisbee?

Ultimate (or Ultimate Frisbee), is a team field sport. It is kind of a mix of soccer, basketball, and football (without baskets/goals/uprights/contact), whilst also being self officiated. Teams start on opposite sides of a field, at the front of the end zone they will be defending for the point. Players must pass the disc back and forth without it touching the ground. Players may not move when holding the disc (pivoting is allowed), and must catch it inside the opposing team's end zone. Ultimate is fully self officiated, even at some of the highest levels, and is run by spirit of the game. If a player believes that another player committed a foul, they call a foul. Play stops, they talk it out, and play resumes.

What is Spirit of the Game?

Spirit (or Spirit of the Game), is essentially an honor code. If you are fouled, you call it and discuss it with the other players. Spirit is what prevents players from intentionally causing a foul, playing dangerously, exhibiting poor sportsmanship, etc. The definition of Spirit varies person-to-person, but has the same basic principles. Make calls based on what you believe/saw happen, be a good sport, and don't endanger your teammates or opponents.

Where are practices?

We mostly practice at Community Park by Davis Senior High School, but coaches will tell you if the location/time changes via GroupMe. Our fields are located on W Covell Blvd by the Rainbow City Playground and Skate Park.

Again, events are posted prior to practices/tournaments/etc on GroupMe, if times/locations change, or any additional information is needed, it will be on GroupMe
